I had a homework to review the book which I think should be put into obligatory reading list. I thought that I might put it here. ;) Review was check, I got 4- (in Poland the best is 6 the worst 1 if you don't know ;)). So it's not so great, but still... Enjoy! :D
I would like to write about "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. It was first published in 1996 in United States. It's a serial drama novel with elements of fantasy.
The story is about Paul Edgecombe who is in the nursing house. He talks with one of his friends from there and tells about one of his memories. He was working as a block supervisor of the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row, named "Green Mile" because of the colours of the green floor. One day John Coffey appears in the prison. He is sentenced to death for raping and murdering two little white girls. This man is very sensitive and soon Paul discoveres that he couldn't have done these crimes. John is able to heal people too. He has very helpful gift. Despite all this, John has to sit in the electric chair, also known as "Old Sparky".
I thinki that the book has big value. First of all, it shows that the black people were guilty even without proofs. He was found with the girls, but it doesn't mean that he hurt them. Once we meet him, we are 100% sure that he didn't do it, but he's black - he has to pay. It's really unfair. What is more the jailers try to think about prisoners as the lost people. They try to see the emotions in them. Furthermore, the book shows that everyone will die in the end.
I think this book should be put in the obligatory reading list. It's really wonderful.
I hope it's not too stupid ;)
