Chromium

Verenka's blog in Chromium It's a test, which I made some time ago for my polish blog (read this here -> Chromium). I want to focus on Chromium. It's almost the same as Google Chrome, but the latter is built, packaged and distributed by Google.

I wanted to try Google Chrome, but I didn't find any version for Linux when I was writting the post for my polish blog. Now I know that in AUR (ArchLinux User-community Repository) there is Google Chrome and it's working pretty good. I have this version -> google-chrome-beta 5.0.307.11-1. There is newer build, but this works ;)

I found Chromium on my old desktop. This computer is quite old and because of that I decided to change clean and increase performance. I changed KDE to LXDE, but it didn't solve the problem with hight CPU usage. I checked which process took large amount and it was Opera Browser. Then I thought: "OK. I can change it... But for what?!" I tried Firefox, but things which I needed the most at that time, which was Google Doc, weren't working. So I started searching in repositories and found Chromium. I decade to try it.

Installation? pacman -S chromium

First launch of Chromium

After launching I got nice and clean application. Good for eyes. ;)

Google in Chromium Isn't it beautiful? I check how much CPU it used and comparing to Opera it was much more better! :D Opera used around 80%. Chromium - only 9%. Hmm.. Maybe it's good time to tell you what I have inside this desktop. So it's AMD Duron(tm) 850MHz, 628MB of RAM, Linux version -> 2.6.31-ARCH, Chromium version -> 4.0.249.64, Opera version -> 10.20 [I know it's quite old, because now Chromium have version 5]

I have to say that I really like it. Since then I'm using it on daily basic and I'm happy with it. Only sometimes it is making my HP notebook slow, but I like to have many tabs open for very long time. ;)

Auto complete in Chromium's address bar Convenient function is the Google search on address bar. In Opera you have to type "g search term". Here you type just the search term. And famous Google's auto complete it's there too ^^

I think this app is worth checking. After you do it, let me know what you think about it. Hope you have fun. Don't be afraid to leave a comment.

Greetings
